Celebrating Turnaround’s Powerful Partnership with Young Voices Academy of the Bronx

Turnaround for Children has enjoyed a strong partnership with Young Voices Academy of the Bronx since the day the school first opened. School founders Nadia Cruz-Perez (principal) and Youche Chia (guidance counselor) chose to align with Turnaround due to their deep interest in establishing a school where whole child development and social-emotional learning were at the core. Turnaround worked closely with the school’s leaders, teachers and community-based mental health partners to create schoolwide systems and structures that foster safe and supportive environments for learning.

“It’s just in the air from when you walk in the building,” says Principal Cruz-Perez. “You see everyone engaged in conversation. You see everyone greeting children with a smile.”

True to its name, Young Voices Academy has created a school where every child has a voice. Commencement for the school’s first graduating class will take place this spring. Turnaround created a new video to celebrate this partnership: watch here.
