Pamela Cantor, M.D. Speaks On COVID-19 Town Hall Hosted by AFT, National PTA and Carnegie Corporation

Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., was a featured speaker at a telephone town hall on Strategies for Parents and Teachers Grappling with COVID-19 Stress, hosted by American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the National Parent Teacher Association, and Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Dr. Cantor joined a panel of speakers including Arthur C. Evans Jr., PhD., CEO and Executive Vice President of the American Psychological Association, Jim Erey, a high school teacher in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Antoinette Brown, a parent in Laurel, Maryland, to share strategies that parents and teachers can use to support students and cope with the stress brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

During her speech, Dr. Cantor explained “The Three Rs,” which offer a path towards cognitive development and resilience for students.

“The path to a calm classroom is a calm brain. The path to learning is a calm brain. The path to both of these, whether it is our homes now or when our kids re-enter school, is to prioritize three things: Relationships, Routines and Resilience.”

The telephone town hall was moderated by Randi Weingarten, President of AFT, and attended by 55,000 parents and teachers from across the country.
