Graphic: How Students Receive Access to Supports Within a Tiered System

The following graphic provides a visual representation of how students might receive access to supports within a tiered system. This visual includes a brief description of Tier 1 universal supports.

Graphic Tiered Supports System

These universal supports are included to illustrate a multi-tiered approach, highlighting the necessary foundational, proactive strategies aligned to the creation of a system that reflects the whole child. For the remainder of our discussion on tiered supports, we will be focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of support.

We have organized and divided components of our approach in design of a tiered supports system into implementation phases:

  • Assessing the Health of Your Tiered System of Supports
  • Identification/Referral Phase
  • Collaboration Phase
  • Implementation Phase
  • Progress Monitoring Phase
