Turnaround’s Ben Fenton Interviewed by The 74

The74

Turnaround for Children’s Ben Fenton was interviewed by The 74 about his thoughts on the Every School Succeeds Act (ESSA) and book, Breakthrough Principals: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building Stronger Schools, which he co-authored while at New Leaders.

Here is an excerpt:

Ninety-seven percent of teachers in surveys say the quality of the school leadership is essential or very important for retention, and that’s well ahead of any other factor. In most states or districts, when they think about teacher learning or teacher quality for school success, they are not thinking about school leadership as a major investment.

Fenton is a co-founder of New Leaders, a national nonprofit dedicated to developing transformational leaders for high poverty schools. He joined Turnaround for Children in 2016 as Senior Advisor, Systemic Impact.
