Pamela Cantor, M.D. Delivers Keynote Speech to Washington, D.C. Public School Leaders
Turnaround for Children’s Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D. delivered a keynote speech to more than 600 DC Public Schools (DCPS) leaders at the DCPS Summer Leadership Institute (SLI.)
Dr. Cantor led the audience through her personal journey to understand the science that explains how children learn and what can support or derail healthy development. She urged educators to organize their schools and classrooms with the science of learning and development as a foundation, in order to reveal and foster the passions and skills of every student. Dr. Cantor also shared several practices educators can use to turn their schools into positive developmental and academic forces in their students’ lives.
Deputy Chancellor of DC Public Schools, Melissa Kim, introduced Dr. Cantor and Chancellor Lewis D. Ferebee made concluding remarks.
This year’s SLI centered on the day-to-day experience of DCPS students with a special focus on student agency and voice. School leaders had the opportunity to address topics on systemic inequities and learn intentional ways to maximize student ownership and expression. Other keynote speakers during the four-day SLI were Lisa Delpit, Ph.D. and Olga Acosta Price, Ph.D.
