Pamela Cantor M.D. Quoted in U.S. Department of Education Budget Request Hearing
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., was quoted by Congresswoman and Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Rosa DeLauro, during the FY 2022 Budget Request hearing for the U.S. Department of Education.
The request focused on investing $103 billion in Department of Education programs, including expanding access to pre-K, addressing disparities between under-resourced and wealthier schools, and increasing the availability of wraparound services in underserved communities with a significant expansion of the Full-Service Community Schools program.
When discussing the recent increases in funding for programs centered around whole-child approaches, DeLauro stated:
I’d like to quote Dr. Pam Cantor…who worked with us on this initiative, and something she says in relation to the whole-child approach to learning – adversity doesn’t just happen to children, it happens inside their brains and bodies through the biologic mechanisms of stress. This is why students in poverty are well-served by schools that provide holistic services and supports that account for their social, emotional, physical and academic needs. And I think that is really appropriate.
