Pamela Cantor, M.D. Featured in Instruction Partners Rethinking Intervention Series
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., spoke to Instruction Partners CEO Emily Freitag about the importance of creating learning environments that can protect children from the effects of stress caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the widespread civil unrest as schools reopen this fall.
Cantor and Freitag discussed a range of topics including Cantor’s path to child psychiatry, 9/11 and the founding of Turnaround for Children, and how today’s pandemic is creating a context that actually allows students to build the vital skills needed to build resilience and thrive.
During the interview, Cantor remarked:
Today in the time of COVID and violence and racism and inequity, we have no choice about what to prioritize. The path to a calm classroom is a calm brain. The path to learning is a calm brain. And the path to both of these is to prioritize activities that build relationships, build consistent routines, and build resilience.
