Pamela Cantor, M.D. Presents at Center for Systems Awareness Workshop
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., was a guest speaker at the Center for Systems Awareness virtual workshop, “Introduction to Compassionate Systems Framework in Schools.”
The four-day workshop was facilitated by Center for Systems Awareness Co-founders and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) faculty members, Peter Senge and Mette Boell.
In her presentation, Dr. Cantor spoke about the role of the science of learning and development in context of the COVID-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty and widespread civil unrest. Dr. Cantor explained that we may be at an inflection point and presented the possibility for a transformation in the American education system that is designed to develop the whole child. Dr. Cantor explained:
When other fields like medicine, hit a point like this where fundamental assumptions and beliefs had to be challenged, they found solutions that created huge benefits for many more people. In fact, when standardized fields get disrupted, this is what happens, they move toward personalization whether in medicine, or think music and Spotify, or entertainment and Netflix. Today it is clearer than ever that learning is going to move with the learner and will happen wherever the learner is.
The workshop focused on “Reopening Schools with Attunement to Today’s Reality” and was attended by over one hundred educators and researchers from across the country.
