Pamela Cantor, M.D. Co-Authors California Collaborative on District Reform Brief on Whole-Child
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor M.D., co-authored a brief published by the California Collaborative on District Reform titled, “Ensuring Whole-Child Well-Being as a Foundation for Learning: Relationships, Routines, and Resilience in the Time of COVID-19.”
Authored with Joel Knudson from American Institutes for Research (AIR), the brief explores how the pandemic has amplified threats to whole-child health and well-being while also drawing attention to human resilience and the supports that can empower students and adults to navigate these obstacles.
The brief illustrates the need to focus attention on supporting the social, emotional and cognitive wellbeing of all school community members. Prioritizing the New Three Rs can help create learning environments that allow students to cope with stress and gain resilience during the pandemic and beyond.
Using insights from the science of learning and development, the brief offers a starting point for school districts in developing strategies to help students and adults thrive during this time.
