Pamela Cantor, M.D. Cited in AFT President’s Statement for Hearing on Pandemic School Closures
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., was mentioned in a prepared statement by AFT President Randi Weingarten for a House Oversight Committee hearing on the consequences of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic hearing, “The Consequences of School Closures, Part 2: The President of the American Federation of Teachers, Ms. Randi Weingarten,” was held on April 26, 2023. In the hearing, Weingarten was questioned by representatives regarding the decision making process behind pandemic era school closures and the subsequent effects, with the goal of refining future processes.
In a statement prepared by Weingarten before the hearing, Dr. Cantor is referenced as participating in town halls hosted by AFT in order to answer questions and disseminate important information to the community.
“We did town halls with President Trump’s Surgeon General Jerome Adams as well as Dr. Anthony Fauci. We did town halls with the National PTA and other parents’ groups, and with mental health experts such as Dr. Pamela Cantor. Our town halls drew tens of thousands of participants. We met via Zoom with parent groups that often disagreed with us on COVID-19 safety measures and school closures. One of those Zooms included Dr. Tracy Hoeg, one of the witnesses at your hearing last month, who was quite complimentary at the time about the work we were doing. We heard each other out and talked things through. We need more of that in America.”
