D.C. Public Schools Leaders Cite Partnership With Turnaround at Oversight Hearing
Leaders from D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) referenced their partnership with Turnaround for Children at the Council of the District of Columbia Joint Performance Oversight Hearing for DCPS on February 20, 2020.
During the hearing, Councilmember David Grosso inquired about DCPS’ work with Turnaround on school-based behavioral and mental health issues. DCPS Chancellor Lewis Ferebee and Deputy Chancellor Dr. Melissa Kim elaborated on Turnaround’s efforts to train all DCPS school leaders on the science of learning and development through professional development and school partnerships.
Dr. Kim also cited Turnaround’s Whole-Child Inventory and Schoolwide Environmental Assessment Tool (SEAT) as essential rubrics needed to asses student behavior and overall learning environment at the schools. The chancellors notably commended Turnaround partner schools Hendley Elementary School, Ketcham Elementary School and Moten Elementary School for their progress.
