Edutopia Shares Sneak Peek of New Video Series “How Learning Happens”

Edutopia, a program of the George Lucas Educational Foundation, shared a sneak preview of three videos from its new series, “How Learning Happens,” which explores teaching practices grounded in the science of learning and human development.

The series was produced by Edutopia with support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, in collaboration with Turnaround for Children; The Science of Learning and Development Initiative; The Aspen Institute National Commission on Social, Emotional, & Academic Development; The Learning Policy Institute, American Institutes for Research, and EducationCounsel.

“How Learning Happens” explains the science of learning and development and provides strategies that educators can use to help all children thrive. The series features interviews with Turnaround Founder and Senior Science Advisor Pamela Cantor, M.D., and Learning Policy Institute President and CEO Linda Darling-Hammond, Ed.D.

Among the first set of videos shared in the sneak preview, Dr. Cantor is featured in “Encouraging Academic Conversations with Talk Moves,” about sentence starters that students use to join class discussions, which encourage both academic thinking and social connectedness. Watch the video.

The full series of more than 20 videos will be released in early 2019. Subscribe to Edutopia’s newsletter to be notified when additional videos from the series are published.
