Michael Lamb presents at School Systems Leaders Fellowship seminar

Michael Lamb, Turnaround for Children’s Executive Director, Washington D.C, presented to the School Systems Leaders Fellowship at their “Seminar Two,” held at Teach for America’s offices in Washington, D.C. on October 19, 2017.

The fellowship, currently in its fourth cohort, consists of 20 TFA alums from across the country who aspire to hold leadership roles in education at the senior systems level.

During the seminar, the fellows studied the example of the work of Turnaround partner District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) to integrate support for students’ social and emotional learning with their academic program and explored the impact of race, power and equity in systems-level leadership.

During his presentation, Lamb and the fellows explored the basics of social, emotional and academic development in a session focused on the science behind trauma, the impact of adversity on learning, and emerging practices that support the integration of environments and relationships, skills and mindsets and instructional and academic efficacy in schools, with a goal of accelerated healthy student development and academic achievement for all students.
