Pamela Cantor, M.D. and Brooklyn LAB’s Eric Tucker Co-Author Article for Getting Smart

Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor Pamela Cantor, M.D. and Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools’ Eric Tucker co-authored the article, “The White House is Right: It’s Time for Schools to Invest in Student Success,” published on Getting Smart.

In the article, the authors discuss how The White House has recommended an investment in school programs that center relationships to support students’ mental, emotional, and academic needs in response to the challenges and trauma brought on by the pandemic. The authors point our that the science of learning and development supports this type of investment and how using the principles of whole-child design lays the groundwork for putting this type of support into action. The article goes on to detail the investments made at Brooklyn LAB, including implementing a success coach program, piloting advisories that prioritize safety and belonging, and training all adults on strategies for building trusting relationships with students.
