Pamela Cantor, M.D. Cited in Chuansong.me
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Pamela Cantor, M.D., was cited in an article on the Chinese website, Chuansong.me.
The article, which appears in the “Parents Hall” section, explores the pros and cons of strict parenting practices in China.
Noting the negative impact of chronic stress on children’s mental health, learning and behavior, the author cites Dr. Cantor’s research on the impact of adversity on learning, stating that when children have persistently high levels of stress, and that stress is not buffered by the presence of a trusted and calm adult, they can get locked in that fight or flight feeling. Cortisol (the stress hormone) can do a lot of harm to the structures in the brain that regulate focus, attention and emotion – the structures of the limbic system.
