Pamela Cantor, M.D. Gives Keynote Address at EdPrepLab Fireside Chat
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor Pamela Cantor, M.D. gave the keynote address and participated in a fireside chat for EdPrepLab‘s 2022 Spring Convening.
Held on June 8, 2022, the EdPrepLab Spring Convening was hosted by Bank Street College of Education and the Learning Policy Institute with a focus on early career teachers, their experiences beginning teaching during the pandemic, and what their most pressing needs are in this moment. The virtual event included a panel discussion with early career teachers, working group sessions and a fireside chat on educator preparation.
In the discussion, “Centering the Science of Learning and Development in Educator Preparation,” Cantor was joined by Na’ilah Nasir, President of the Spencer Foundation and the American Educational Research Association; Shael Polakow-Suransky, President of Bank Street College; Jacqueline Rodriguez, Vice President, Research, Policy, and Advocacy at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and Kenneth Zeichner, Boeing Professor of Teacher Education Emeritus at the University of Washington. The group discussed the importance of using the science of learning and development to design learning environments for pre-k–12 students, and how EdPrepLab is using this scientific knowledge to create principles for the preparation of teachers and leaders.
