Turnaround Featured in Education Week Video Series on What It Means To Be Trauma-Informed
Turnaround for Children Director of Mental Health Integration, Renee Prince, was featured in the video series “What Does It Mean To Be Trauma-Informed?” by Education Week.
The 4-part video explainer explores how children are impacted by traumatic stress and how to build school environments that can effectively address these experiences and support the healthy development and learning of young people. The videos focus on the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and provide examples of school districts who have successfully implemented trauma-informed programs.
Prince offers guidance on approaches educators can adopt to incorporate into their trauma-sensitive practices, including:
- Trauma-informed professional development
- Developing a process for identifying students in crisis
- Teaching coping strategies, and
- Communicating and collaborating with students, student-support staff and families in creating supportive environments
