Turnaround Founder Pamela Cantor, M.D. Presents at Attendance Works Webinar
Turnaround for Children Founder and Senior Science Advisor Pamela Cantor, M.D. spoke at the webinar, “Belonging and Engagement: The Keys to Showing Up,” hosted by Attendance Works and the Institute for Educational Leadership.
Part of the 2023 Attendance Awareness Campaign, this preliminary webinar kicked off the series with a focus on strategies for increasing attendance, engagement and belonging by drawing on the assets available to schools and communities. Fellow panelists included Executive Director at Attendance Works, Hedy Chang; Vice President at Institute for Educational Leadership, Kwesi Rollins; Chief Program Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, Cherri Rowe; Attendance Counselor – Whole Child Department at Tacoma Public Schools, Jimmy Gere and Dean of Students at Oakland High School, Audrey Wilson.
Cantor discussed the anxiety and stress students are currently facing, the effects on their learning and well-being, how relationships can serve as the antidote, and how schools and communities can support students and their families during challenging times. Citing a feeling of uncertainty in regards to the future among young people, Dr. Cantor highlighted the need to reimagine how schools are designed in an effort to combat this mindset and instill forward thinking and resiliency in students.
