Turnaround for Children participated in two presentations at the ASU+GSV Summit 2018 in San Diego, CA, April 16-18.

On day one of the conference, April 16, Turnaround for Children President and CEO Pamela Cantor, M.D. and Vice President of Policy and Partnership Engagement, Dr. Gisele C. Shorter, were featured speakers on a panel titled “The Potential of Personalization for the Whole Child: Bridging Science to Practice to Technology for All Learners.” The panel was moderated by Vic Vuchic, Chief Innovation Officer, Digital Promise. Other panelists included Dan Cogan-Drew, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Newsela, and Devin Vodicka, Chief Impact Officer, AltSchool. The panelists discussed a vision for how classrooms could be designed for development and equity: environments that create positive experiences and relationships; teaching that develops essential skills and mindsets; and technology which ensures rigorous content that taps into student passions, builds purpose and fulfills dreams — and discussed how technology can translate research into factors product developers can use to design tools that reach the full diversity of learners. The goal: whole child personalized learning and support for each student.

On Wednesday, April 18, Dr. Cantor presented a plenary titled “Genes are Chemical Followers: Connecting the Dots between Science, Context and Human Potential.” Dr. Cantor explained how educators, educational technology developers, and others can harness the latest developmental science to design educational environments that accelerate learning and drive the full expression of human potential.
